(18–19) “Indeed, the men and women who give in charity and lend Allah a goodly loan will have it multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward.”
“The men and women who give in charity”—the word is read with gemination—means those who give abundantly in the forms of charity prescribed by the Sacred Law and in expenditures pleasing to Allah. They “lend Allah a goodly loan” by devoting some of their wealth to avenues of goodness, so that it may be stored up for them (1) with their Lord. “It will be multiplied for them”: each good deed will be multiplied tenfold, up to seven hundredfold, and many times beyond that. “And they will have a noble reward,” namely, what Allah has prepared for them in Paradise, of which no soul has any knowledge.
