(37) “When heaven is split apart and becomes rose-red like molten oil.”
“When heaven is split apart”—[that is,] on the Day of Resurrection, because of the overwhelming horrors, abundant anguish, and successive terrors—its sun and moon will be darkened and its stars scattered. “And becomes,” because of the intense fear and alarm, “rose-red like molten oil”; that is, it will be like molten metal, melted lead, and the like.
“So which of your Lord’s favors will you both deny? On that Day, neither human nor jinn will be questioned about their sin.” That is, they will not be questioned in order to ascertain what occurred, for He knows the unseen and the witnessed, the past and the future. He intends to recompense His servants according to what He knows of their states. On the Day of Resurrection, He has also given those who do good and those who do evil signs by which they will be recognized, as He, Exalted is He, says: “On the Day when some faces will turn white and others will turn black.”
