(270) “Whatever expenditure you make or vow you pledge, Allah surely knows it. And the wrongdoers will have no helpers.”
This verse affirms recompense for all expenditures commanded by Allah—whether obligatory or recommended, small or great—and for the vows that a legally accountable person has made binding upon himself. Allah Most High knows them, and nothing concerning them is hidden from Him. He also knows the motive from which they arose: whether it was sincerity or something else. If they arose from sincerity and a desire to attain Allah’s pleasure, He will reward them with immense bounty and tremendous recompense. But if a servant fails to make the expenditures incumbent upon him, does not fulfill the vows he has made binding upon himself, or seeks thereby the approval of created beings, then he is a wrongdoer who has put something where it does not belong. He thus deserves ⦗116⦘ severe punishment, and no created being will benefit or support him. Hence He says: “And the wrongdoers will have no helpers.”
