(47โ49) โIndeed, those who have done wrong will have a punishment before that, but most of them do not know. * So remain patient with your Lordโs decree, for you are under Our watchful care. Glorify your Lord with praise when you rise, * and glorify Him during the night and as the stars recede.โ
When [Allah] mentioned the punishment of the wrongdoers on the Day of Resurrection, He stated that they would suffer another punishment before the punishment of that Day (1). This includes punishment in this world through being killed, taken captive, and driven from their homes, as well as punishment in the intermediate realm and the grave. โBut most of them do not know.โ That is why they persist in conduct that incurs punishment and severe chastisement.
After the Most High had set forth the proofs and evidence demonstrating the falsity of the deniersโ claims, He commanded His Messengerโmay Allah bless him and grant him peaceโto pay them no heed and to remain patient with his Lordโs decree, both providential and religious, adhering to it and remaining steadfast. Allah promised to suffice him, saying, โFor you are under Our watchful careโโthat is, within Our sight and protection, and under Our attentive care. He also commanded him to seek help in remaining patient through remembrance and worship, saying, โGlorify your Lord with praise when you riseโโthat is, during the night.
This contains a command to stand in prayer at night. Alternatively, it means when you rise to perform the five daily prayers, as indicated by His words, โAnd glorify Him during the night and as the stars recedeโโthat is, at the end of the night, which includes the dawn prayer. Allah knows best.
This concludes the commentary on Surah al-Tลซr. All praise is due to Allah.
