Tafsir al-Sadi - Abd al-Rahman al-Sadi’ - (808)

(10–14) “Perish the liars, * those who are engulfed in ignorance, heedless. * They ask, ‘When is the Day of Judgment?’ * It is the Day they will be tormented in the Fire. * ‘Taste your torment! This is what you sought to hasten.’”

Allah says: “Perish the liars.” That is: May Allah destroy those who lie about Allah, reject His signs, and engage in falsehood in order to refute the truth—those who speak about Allah without knowledge.

“Those who are engulfed”—that is, immersed in the depths of disbelief, ignorance, and misguidance—“heedless.”

“They ask”—out of doubt and denial—when they will be raised; that is, when their resurrection will occur. They consider it far-fetched, so do not even ask about their condition and their evil end.

“It is the Day they will be tormented in the Fire.” That is, they will be punished because of the inward and outward wickedness they harbored. It will be said [to them]: “Taste your torment!” That is, the punishment and the Fire, which are the consequence of the trial to which they succumbed—the ordeal that brought them to disbelief and misguidance. “This”—the punishment at which you have now arrived—[is] “what you used to seek to hasten.” Now, then, enjoy every kind of punishment and chastisement, chains and shackles, wrath and ruin.

﴿١٠-١٤﴾ ﴿قُتِلَ الْخَرَّاصُونَ * الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُونَ * يَسْأَلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الدِّينِ * يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى النَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ * ذُوقُوا فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ﴾ . يقول تعالى: ﴿قُتِلَ الْخَرَّاصُونَ﴾ أي: قاتل الله الذين كذبوا على الله، وجحدوا آياته، وخاضوا بالباطل، ليدحضوا به الحق، الذين يقولون على الله ما لا يعلمون. ﴿الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي غَمْرَةٍ﴾ أي: في لجة من الكفر، والجهل، والضلال، ﴿سَاهُونَ﴾ ﴿يَسْأَلُونَ﴾ على وجه الشك والتكذيب أيان يبعثون أي: متى يبعثون، مستبعدين لذلك، فلا تسأل عن حالهم وسوء مآلهم ﴿يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى النَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ﴾ أي: يعذبون بسبب ما انطووا عليه من خبث الباطن والظاهر، ويقال [لهم] : ﴿ذُوقُوا فِتْنَتَكُمْ﴾ أي: العذاب والنار، الذي هو أثر ما افتتنوا به، من الابتلاء الذي صيرهم إلى الكفر، والضلال، ﴿هَذَا﴾ العذاب، الذي وصلتم إليه، [هو] ﴿الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ﴾ فالآن، تمتعوا بأنواع العقاب والنكال والسلاسل والأغلال، والسخط والوبال.
