Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

⦗15⦘ “The description of Paradise promised to the righteous is this: in it are rivers of water that never becomes stale, rivers of milk whose taste never changes, rivers of wine delightful to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey. There they will have every kind of fruit and forgiveness from their Lord. Are they like one who abides forever in the Fire and is given scalding water to drink, which tears his bowels apart?”

That is, this is the description of the Paradise Allah has prepared for His servants who guarded themselves against His wrath and pursued His pleasure—its beautiful qualities and characteristics.

“In it are rivers of water that never becomes stale”—that is, it never changes through unwholesomeness, foul odor, bitterness, or murkiness. Rather, it is the sweetest and purest of water, the most pleasant in scent, and the most delightful to drink.

“And rivers of milk whose taste never changes” through sourness or anything else; “and rivers of wine delightful to those who drink”—that is, those who drink it experience immense delight, unlike the wine of this world, which has an unpleasant taste, causes headaches, and robs the mind of reason.

“And rivers of purified honey,” free of wax and every other impurity.

“There they will have every kind of fruit,” including dates, grapes, apples, pomegranates, citrons, figs, and other fruits unlike anything in this world. Thus, everything they love and seek will be theirs.

Then He said, “And forgiveness from their Lord,” by which everything they fear will be removed from them. So which is better: these people, or one who abides forever in the Fire, whose heat is intense and whose torment is multiplied, and who “is given” therein “scalding water to drink”—that is, water of extreme heat—“which tears his bowels apart”?

Glory be to the One who has made such a vast difference between the two abodes, the two recompenses, the two groups of people, and their respective deeds.
