﴾9-14﴿ “If you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely say, ‘The Almighty, the All-Knowing created them’—the One who has made the earth a resting place for you and made paths upon it so that you may find your way.”
Allah Most High relates concerning the polytheists that if you were to “ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they would surely say”: Allah alone, without any partner—the Almighty, before whose might all creation submits; the All-Knowing, who knows the outward and inward aspects of all things, their beginnings and their ends. Since they acknowledge this, how can they ascribe to Him a child, a consort, or a partner? How can they associate with Him those who neither create nor provide, and who neither cause death nor give life?
He then mentions further proofs demonstrating the perfection of His favor and power: He created the earth for His servants, spread it out, and made it a stable dwelling for them, where they can accomplish whatever they desire.
“And made paths upon it for you”—that is, He made passageways through interconnected mountain chains by which you can reach the regions beyond them—“so that you may find your way” while traveling along the roads and not become lost, and so that, by contemplating this, you may also be guided to take heed and remember.
