“Should We then turn the Reminder away from you altogether?” That is: Should We turn away from you, cease sending down the Reminder to you, and disregard you because you have turned away from it and refused to submit to it? Rather, We send down the Book to you and clarify everything for you therein. If you believe in it and follow its guidance, that is through divine enablement granted to you; otherwise, the proof will have been established against you, and you will have full knowledge of where you stand.

﴾6-8﴿ “How many a prophet We sent among the former peoples! Yet no prophet ever came to them without their mocking him. So We destroyed those mightier in power than these, and the precedent of the former peoples has already passed.”

Allah Most High says: It is Our established practice among creation not to leave them neglected. How many a prophet We sent among the former peoples, commanding them to worship Allah alone, without any partner! Yet denial has persisted among the nations.

“Yet no prophet ever came to them without their mocking him,” rejecting what he brought and arrogantly refusing the truth.

“So We destroyed those mightier than these in power”—that is, in strength, deeds, and the traces they left upon the earth—“and the precedent of the former peoples has already passed.” That is, their examples and accounts have already gone before, and We have explained to you from them what contains a lesson and a deterrent against denial and rejection.
