﴿51-53﴾ “It is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except through revelation, or from behind a veil, or by sending a messenger who reveals, by His permission, whatever He wills. He is truly Most High, All-Wise. *”
When those who rejected Allah’s messengers and disbelieved in Allah said, “Why does Allah not speak to us, or why does a sign not come to us?”—out of their arrogance and insolence—Allah responded to them with this noble verse. He explained that He speaks only to the elect of His creation: the prophets and messengers, His chosen ones among all beings. This occurs in one of the following ways:
Either Allah speaks to him through revelation, casting the revelation into the messenger’s heart without sending an angel or addressing him directly;
“Or” He speaks to him directly, but “from behind a veil,” as occurred with Moses son of Imrān, to whom the Most Merciful spoke directly;
“Or” Allah speaks to him through an angelic messenger, so “He sends a messenger,” such as Gabriel or another angel,
“who reveals by His permission”—that is, by his Lord’s permission, not merely according to his own desire. “He”—Exalted is He—is Most High in His Essence, His magnificent attributes, and His actions. He has subdued all things, and all created beings submit to Him. He is Wise, placing everything in its proper place, whether in creation or in religious law.
