โYou will see them brought before it, humbled by disgrace and casting furtive glances. Those who believe will say, โThe true losers are those who have lost themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection.โ Truly, the wrongdoers will be in lasting punishment. * They will have no protectors besides Allah to help them. Whoever Allah leaves astray will have no way.โ
โYou will see them brought before itโโthat is, before the Fireโโhumbled by disgrace.โ That is, you will see their bodies humbled by the disgrace within their hearts. โCasting furtive glancesโ: that is, they will steal sidelong glances at the Fire because of their dread and fear of it.
โThose who believe will say,โ when the ultimate outcomes of all creatures become manifest and the truthful are distinguished from everyone else, โThe true losersโ are โthose who have lost themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection,โ for they deprived themselves of immense reward, incurred painful punishment, and were separated from their families, never to be reunited with them. โTruly, the wrongdoersโโwho wronged themselves through disbelief and sinsโโwill be in lasting punishmentโ; that is, engulfed in its very midst, never to emerge from it. It will never be lightened for them, and there they will remain in despair.
โThey will have no protectors besides Allah to help them,โ although in this world they had entertained such hopes. On the Day of Resurrection, it will become clear to them and everyone else that the means upon which they had pinned their hopes have been severed, and that when Allahโs punishment came upon them, nothing warded it off. โWhoever Allah leaves astray will have no wayโ by which he might attain guidance. These people went astray because they imagined that their supposed partners could confer benefit and ward off harm; at that moment, their error will become clear.
