30–32. “Indeed, those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast—the angels descend upon them, saying, ‘Do not fear or grieve, but rejoice in the Paradise you were promised. * We are your allies in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. Therein you shall have whatever your souls desire, and therein you shall have whatever you ask for— * a hospitable welcome from the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.’”
The Most High informs us about His allies, thereby encouraging them and urging others to follow their example. He says: “Indeed, those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast.” That is, they acknowledge, proclaim, and willingly accept Allah Most High’s Lordship; submit to His command; and then remain steadfast upon the straight path in knowledge and deed. For them are glad tidings in this worldly life and in the Hereafter.
“The angels descend upon them”—the noble angels repeatedly descend upon them, giving them glad tidings when death draws near: “Do not fear” what lies ahead of you, “or grieve” over what has passed. They thereby reassure them concerning every dreaded thing, past and future. “But rejoice in the Paradise you were promised,” for it has been assured to you and confirmed, and Allah’s promise is always fulfilled.
They also say to them, reassuring them and giving them glad tidings: “We are your allies in this worldly life and in the Hereafter.” In this world, they encourage them to do good and make it appealing to them; warn them against evil and make it repugnant to their hearts; pray to Allah for them; and keep them steadfast amid calamities and fears—especially at death and during its agonies, in the grave and its darkness, on the Day of Resurrection and amid its terrors, and while crossing the Bridge. In Paradise, they congratulate them upon the honor bestowed by their Lord and enter ⦗749⦘ upon them through every gate, saying: “Peace be upon you for your patience. How excellent is the final abode!”
They also say to them: “Therein”—that is, in Paradise—“you shall have whatever your souls desire,” already prepared and made ready. “And therein you shall have whatever you ask for”—that is, everything you seek and desire among all kinds of pleasures and delights, such as no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever conceived.
“A hospitable welcome from the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” That is, this immense reward and everlasting bliss are a welcome and hospitality “from the All-Forgiving,” who has forgiven you your misdeeds, “Most Merciful,” who enabled you to perform good deeds and then accepted them from you. Through His forgiveness, He removed from you what was feared, and through His mercy, He granted you what was sought.
