(19–24) “On the Day when Allah’s enemies are gathered to the Fire, they will be marshaled together, * until, when they reach it, their hearing, their sight, and their skins will testify against them concerning what they used to do.”
Allah Most High tells us about His enemies—those who openly defied Him by disbelieving in Him and His signs, rejecting His messengers, showing them enmity, and waging war against them—and about their dreadful condition when they are gathered, that is, brought together. “To the Fire, they will be marshaled together” [that is]: those at the front will be held back until those behind catch up, while those behind will follow those ahead. They will be driven toward it with great force, unable to resist, defend themselves, or receive any help.
“Until, when they reach it”—that is, when they arrive at the Fire and seek to deny, or actually deny, the sins they committed—“their hearing, their sight, and their skins will testify against them.” Here, a general expression follows specific ones. [“Concerning what they used to do.”] That is, every part of their bodies will testify against them. Each part will say, “I did such and such on such and such a day.” These three are singled out because most sins are committed by them or through them.
