(56) “Indeed, those who dispute Allah’s signs without any authority having come to them have nothing in their hearts but a desire for greatness that they will never attain. So seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He alone is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.”
Allah Most High informs us that those who dispute His signs in order to invalidate them with falsehood, without any clear proof from Him or any evidence, do so only because their hearts harbor arrogance toward the truth and toward the one who brought it. With the falsehood they possess, they seek to exalt themselves above him. This is their aim and intent.
But they will not succeed, nor will they attain what they seek. This is an explicit declaration and glad tidings that everyone who disputes the truth will be defeated, and everyone who arrogantly rejects it will ultimately be humiliated.
“So seek refuge”; that is, seek protection and turn for shelter “in Allah.” What one is to seek refuge from is left unspecified so that the command may be general. In other words: seek refuge in Allah from the pride that leads one to arrogantly reject the truth; seek refuge in Allah from the devils among humankind and the jinn; and seek refuge in Allah from every evil.
“Indeed, He alone is the All-Hearing” of every voice, despite their differences, “the All-Seeing” of all visible things, wherever and whenever they may be.
