(53–55) “We certainly gave Moses guidance and caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Book—a guide and a reminder for people of understanding. So be patient; surely Allah’s promise is true. Seek forgiveness for your sin, and glorify your Lord with praise in the evening and the morning.”
After mentioning ⦗740⦘ what transpired between Moses and Pharaoh and what ultimately became of Pharaoh and his forces, and then stating the general ruling that encompasses him and the people of the Fire, He mentioned that He gave Moses “guidance”; that is, the signs and the knowledge by which those who seek guidance are guided.
“And We caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Book”; that is, We made it an inheritance passed down among them from one generation to the next. This was the Torah. That Book contained guidance—namely, knowledge of religious rulings and other matters—and reminders that encouraged good and warned against evil. Yet this was not for everyone, but only “for people of understanding.”
“So be patient,” O Messenger, as the resolute messengers before you were patient. “Surely Allah’s promise is true”; that is, it admits of no doubt, uncertainty, or falsehood that might make patience difficult for you. Rather, it is pure truth and unalloyed guidance, for which the patient persevere and to which people of insight strive to hold fast.
Thus, the statement “Surely Allah’s promise is true” is among the things that encourage patience in obeying Allah and refraining from what Allah dislikes.
“Seek forgiveness for your sin,” which hinders you from attaining triumph and happiness. He therefore commanded him to be patient, through which what is desired is attained; to seek forgiveness, through which what is feared is averted; and to glorify Allah Most High with praise, especially “in the evening and the morning.” These are the best times and contain their prescribed devotions and duties, both obligatory and recommended, for this provides assistance in every matter.
