Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“You will see the angels surrounding the Throne on all sides, glorifying their Lord with praise. Judgment will be passed between them in truth, and it will be said, ‘All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds.’”

“You will see the angels”—O you who behold that momentous Day—“surrounding the Throne on all sides.” That is, they will be standing in the service of their Lord and gathered around His Throne, submitting to His majesty, acknowledging His perfection, and wholly absorbed in His beauty. They will be “glorifying their Lord with praise”—that is, declaring Him exalted above everything unbefitting His majesty, whether or not the polytheists attributed it to Him.

“Judgment will be passed between them”—that is, among all creation, from the first to the last—“in truth,” with no ambiguity in it and no denial from anyone against whom judgment is rendered. “And it will be said, ‘All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds.’” The speaker is left unspecified, indicating that all creation will proclaim praise of their Lord and acclaim His wisdom in His judgment concerning the people of Paradise and the people of Hell: praise for His grace and beneficence, and praise for His justice and wisdom.

The commentary on Surah al-Zumar is complete, by Allah’s praise and aid.

Makkan
