(60–61) “On the Day of Resurrection, you will see those who lied about Allah with their faces blackened. Is there not in Hell an abode for the arrogant? But Allah will deliver those who were mindful of Him through their salvation: no harm will touch them, nor will they grieve.”
The Exalted tells of the disgrace of those who lied about Him: on the Day of Resurrection, their faces will be blackened, as dark as the pitch-black night, and the people gathered there will recognize them by this. Truth is radiant and clear, like the morning. Thus, just as they blackened the face of truth with lies, Allah will blacken their faces—a recompense corresponding to their deeds.
They will have blackened faces and severe punishment in Hell. Hence He says: “Is there not in Hell an abode for the arrogant?”—those too proud to accept the truth or worship their Lord, and who fabricate lies against Him? Indeed, by Allah! It contains punishment, disgrace, and wrath that will overwhelm the arrogant utterly, and through it full justice will be exacted from them.
Lying about Allah includes ascribing to Him a partner, child, or consort; saying about Him what is unbefitting of His majesty; claiming prophethood; or making statements about His revealed law that He did not make, while alleging that He said and legislated them.
Having described the condition of the arrogant, He then describes that of those mindful of Him, saying: “But Allah will deliver those who were mindful of Him through their salvation”—that is, through their deliverance. This is because they possess the means of deliverance: mindfulness of Allah, Exalted is He, which is their provision in every terror and hardship. “No harm will touch them”—that is, no punishment that would distress them—“nor will they grieve.” Thus, both suffering punishment and fearing it are removed from them, and this is the utmost security.
They will therefore enjoy perfect security, accompanying them until it brings them to the Abode of Peace. There they will be safe from every evil and affliction, the radiance of bliss will shine upon them, and they will say: “All praise is for Allah, who has removed all sorrow from us. Our Lord is truly All-Forgiving, Most Appreciative.”
