“He said, ‘The truth is—and the truth I speak— * I will surely fill Hell with you and with all those among them who follow you. * Say, “I ask you for no reward for it, nor am I one of the pretenders. * It is only a reminder to all creation, * and you will surely come to know its tidings after a time.”’”

Allah Most High “said, ‘The truth is—and the truth I speak.’” That is, truth is My attribute, and truth is what I speak.

“I will surely fill Hell with you and with all those among them who follow you.” After the Messenger had made the evidence clear to the people and shown them the way, Allah said to him:

“Say, ‘I ask you for no reward for it’”—that is, for calling you—“nor am I one of the pretenders,” claiming something that is not mine or pursuing that of which I have no knowledge. I follow only what is revealed to me.

“It is”—that is, this revelation and the Quran—“only a reminder to all creation,” by which they are reminded of everything that benefits them in their religious and worldly affairs. It thus brings honor and elevation to those who act upon it and establishes the proof against those who stubbornly oppose it.

This magnificent surah therefore contains the wise reminder and the momentous news, establishes proofs and demonstrations against those who deny and oppose the Quran and reject the one who brought it, and relates the accounts of Allah’s chosen servants and the recompense of the God-fearing and the transgressors. For this reason, at its beginning He swore by the Quran, possessed of the reminder, and at its end He described it as a reminder to all creation.

Throughout what lies between, reminders are repeatedly given through it, as in His words: “Remember Our servant”; “Remember Our servants”; “a mercy from Us and a reminder”; and “This is a reminder.”

O Allah, teach us from it what we do not know, and remind us from it of what we have forgotten—whether through heedlessness or abandonment.

“And you will surely come to know its tidings”—that is, its report—“after a time.” That will be when the punishment befalls them and all their means are cut off.

Commentary on Sūrah al-Zumar

It is Meccan.

﴿قَالَ فَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُولُ * لأمْلأنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنْكَ وَمِمَّنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ * قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ * إِنْ هُوَ إِلا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ * وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينٍ﴾ . ﴿قَالَ﴾ الله تعالى ﴿فَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُولُ﴾ أي: الحق وصفي، والحق قولي. ﴿لأمْلأنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنْكَ وَمِمَّنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴾ فلما بين الرسول للناس الدليل ووضح لهم السبيل قال الله له: ﴿قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ﴾ أي: على دعائي إياكم ﴿مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ﴾ أدعي أمرا ليس لي، وأقفو ما ليس لي به علم، لا أتبع إلا ما يوحى إليَّ. ﴿إِنْ هُوَ﴾ أي: هذا الوحي والقرآن ﴿إِلا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ﴾ يتذكرون به كل ما ينفعهم، من مصالح دينهم ودنياهم، فيكون شرفا ورفعة للعاملين به، وإقامة حجة على المعاندين. فهذه السورة العظيمة، مشتملة على الذكر الحكيم، والنبأ العظيم، وإقامة الحجج والبراهين، على من كذب بالقرآن وعارضه، وكذب من جاء به، والإخبار عن عباد الله المخلصين، وجزاء المتقين والطاغين. فلهذا أقسم في أولها بأنه ذو الذكر، ووصفه في آخرها بأنه ذكر للعالمين. وأكثر التذكير بها فيما بين ذلك، كقوله: ﴿واذكر عبدنا﴾ - ﴿واذكر عبادنا﴾ - ﴿رحمة من عندنا وذكرى﴾ ﴿هذا ذكر﴾ اللهم علمنا منه ما جهلنا، وذكرنا منه ما نسينا، نسيان غفلة ونسيان ترك. ﴿وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ﴾ أي: خبره ﴿بَعْدَ حِينٍ﴾ وذلك حين يقع عليهم العذاب وتتقطع عنهم الأسباب. تم تفسير سورة ص بمنه تعالى وعونه. تفسير سورة الزمر وهي مكية
