(55โ64) โAll this is so. But indeed, the transgressors shall have an evil return: Hell, which they will enter to burn. What a wretched resting place! Thisโlet them taste it: scalding water and foul discharge, and other torments of the same kind, in many varieties. โHere is a host rushing in with you. No welcome for them! They shall burn in the Fire.โ They will say, โRather, no welcome for you! You brought this upon us. What a wretched abode!โ They will say, โOur Lord, whoever brought this upon us, increase his punishment twofold in the Fire.โโ
โThisโ reward for the God-fearing is as We have described it. โBut indeed, the transgressorsโโthose who overstep all bounds in unbelief and sinโโshall have an evil return,โ an evil destination and place to which to return.
He then explains it in detail: โHell,โ where every kind of torment is gathered, whose heat is fierce and whose cold is extreme. โThey will enter it to burnโโthat is, they will suffer a torment that encompasses them on every side. They will have layers of fire above them and layers beneath them.
โWhat a wretched resting place,โ prepared for them as their dwelling and abode!
โThisโ resting placeโthis severe torment, humiliation, disgrace, and chastisementโโlet them taste it: scalding water,โ water of unbearable heat which they will drink, tearing their intestines apart, โand foul dischargeโโthe most loathsome drink imaginable, consisting of pus and festering discharge, bitter to the taste and foul-smelling.
โAnd other torments of the same kind,โ that is, of the same nature, โin many varietiesโโseveral โฆ716โฆ different kinds of torment with which they will be punished and humiliated.
As they pour into the Fire, they will revile one another, one group saying to another: โHere is a host rushing in with youโ into the Fire. โNo welcome for them! They shall burn in the Fire.โ
โThey will sayโโthat is, the approaching host rushing into itโโRather, no welcome for you! You brought itโโthat is, the punishmentโโupon usโ by calling us, tempting us, leading us astray, and causing this. โWhat a wretched abodeโโthe abode of them all, an abode of evil and misery!
They will then pray against those who led them astray, saying: โOur Lord, whoever brought this upon us, increase his punishment twofold in the Fire.โ
And in another verse He says: โEach will have a double punishment, but you do not know.โ
