(161–163) “Indeed, you and whatever you worship cannot tempt anyone away from Him except one destined to burn in Hell.”

That is: O polytheists, neither you nor those whom you worship besides Allah can tempt and mislead anyone except one whom Allah has decreed to be among the people of Hell; thus, the divine decree takes effect concerning him. The purpose here is to show their inability, and that of their deities, to mislead anyone, and to demonstrate the perfection of Allah Most High’s power. In other words: do not hope to mislead Allah’s chosen servants and His triumphant party.
