“149–157 Ask them: Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? Or did We create the angels female while they witnessed their creation? Indeed, it is out of their sheer fabrication that they say, ‘Allah has begotten.’ They are certainly liars. Has He chosen daughters over sons?”
Allah Most High says to His Prophet Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace: “Ask them”—that is, ask the polytheists who associate others with Allah, who worship the angels and claim that they are Allah’s daughters. They thus combine associating partners with Allah with describing Him in a manner unbefitting His majesty. “Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?” This is an unjust division and an iniquitous claim: first, because they ascribe offspring to Allah Most High; second, because they assign to Him the inferior and more contemptible of the two sexes—daughters, whom they do not accept for themselves. As He says in another verse: “They assign daughters to Allah—glory be to Him!—while they have whatever they desire.” Third, because they regard the angels as Allah’s daughters and pass this judgment about them.
Allah Most High explains their falsehood: “Or did We create the angels female while they witnessed their creation?” The matter is certainly not so, for they did not witness their creation. This shows that they made this claim without knowledge; rather, it was a fabrication against Allah. Hence He says: “Indeed, it is out of their sheer fabrication”—that is, their manifest falsehood—“that they say, ‘Allah has begotten.’ They are certainly liars.”
“Has He chosen”—that is, has He selected.
