“But they denied him, so they will surely be brought forth, except Allah’s chosen servants. And We left for him an honorable remembrance among later generations: ‘Peace be upon Elijah.’ Thus do We reward those who excel in good. He was truly one of Our believing servants.”
“But they denied him”—in what he called them to, refusing to submit to him. Allah then warned them: “So they will surely be brought forth,” meaning, on the Day of Resurrection, to face punishment. No worldly punishment for them is mentioned.
“Except Allah’s chosen servants,” meaning those whom Allah chose and favored by enabling them to follow their prophet. They will not be brought forth for punishment; rather, they will receive an abundant reward from Allah.
“And We left for him”—that is, for Elijah—“an honorable remembrance among later generations.”
“Peace be upon Elijah,” meaning a greeting of peace upon him from Allah and from His servants.
“Thus do We reward those who excel in good. He was truly one of Our believing servants.” Allah praised him just as He praised his fellow prophets. May Allah’s blessings and peace be upon them all.
