“What is the matter with you that you do not help one another? Rather, today they are utterly submissive.”

It will be said to them: “What is the matter with you that you do not help one another?” That is: What has happened to you today? What has befallen you, such that none of you helps or comes to the aid of another, after you used to claim in this world that your gods would ward off the punishment from you, come to your aid, and intercede for you before Allah? It is as though they give no answer to this question, for humiliation and abasement have overwhelmed them. They have surrendered to the punishment of the Fire, humbled and subdued, and have fallen silent in despair. Thus, they do not utter a word.

Hence He says: “Rather, today they are utterly submissive.”
