(41) “Indeed, Allah holds the heavens and the earth lest they cease to exist. And if they were to cease, no one after Him could hold them in place. Indeed, He is Most Forbearing, All-Forgiving.”
Allah Most High tells of His perfect power, His complete mercy, and the vastness of His forbearance and forgiveness. He holds the heavens and the earth back from passing away; for if they were to pass away, no created being could hold them, and all their abilities and strength would prove incapable of doing so.
Yet Allah Most High has decreed that they remain as they were created, so that creation may enjoy stability and benefit and may reflect; so that they may recognize such signs of His mighty sovereignty and powerful ability as will fill their hearts with reverence, veneration, love, and honor for Him; and so that they may recognize the perfection of His forbearance and forgiveness through His granting respite to sinners and not hastening to punish the disobedient. Although, were He to command the sky, it would pelt them with stones, and were He to give the earth leave, it would swallow them. Yet His forgiveness, forbearance, and generosity encompass them: “Indeed, He is Most Forbearing, All-Forgiving.”
