(39) “He is the One who made you successors upon the earth. Whoever disbelieves bears the consequences of his disbelief. The disbelief of the disbelievers only increases their Lord’s abhorrence of them, and the disbelief of the disbelievers only increases their loss.”
Allah Most High informs us of His perfect wisdom and mercy toward His servants: by His prior decree, He ordained that they would succeed one another upon the earth, and He sends warners to every nation to see how they act. Whoever disbelieves in Allah and in what His messengers brought does so to his own detriment; he bears its sin and punishment, and no one else will bear it on his behalf. Through his disbelief, the disbeliever only increases his Lord’s abhorrence and hatred of him. What punishment could be greater ⦗691⦘ than the abhorrence of the Most Generous Lord?!
“The disbelief of the disbelievers only increases their loss.” That is, they lose themselves, their families, their deeds, and their dwellings in Paradise. Thus, the disbeliever continues to increase in misery and loss, humiliation before Allah and His creation, and deprivation.
