(5–7) “O mankind, Allah’s promise is indeed true. So do not let the life of this world deceive you, nor let the Deceiver deceive you concerning Allah. * Satan is indeed your enemy, so take him as an enemy. He only calls his party so that they may become companions of the Blaze. * Those who disbelieve will have a severe punishment, while those who believe and do righteous deeds will have forgiveness and a great reward.”
Allah Most High says: “O mankind, Allah’s promise” ⦗685⦘ of resurrection and recompense for deeds “is indeed true”—that is, there is no doubt, uncertainty, or hesitation about it. Revelational evidence and rational proofs have established this. Since His promise is true, prepare for it, seize your precious time by performing righteous deeds, and let nothing prevent you from doing so.
“So do not let the life of this world deceive you” with its pleasures, desires, and cravings of the soul, thereby distracting you from that for which you were created. “Nor let the Deceiver deceive you concerning Allah.” This Deceiver is “Satan,” who is in truth your enemy; “so take him as an enemy.” That is, always keep his enmity firmly in mind and never neglect to fight him, for he sees you while you do not see him, and he is constantly lying in wait for you.
“He only calls his party so that they may become companions of the Blaze.” His ultimate aim and objective for those who follow him is that they should be subjected to the utmost humiliation through severe punishment.
Allah then states that people are divided into two groups according to whether or not they obey Satan, and He mentions the recompense of each. He says: “Those who disbelieve”—that is, those who reject what the messengers brought and what the revealed Books demonstrate—“will have a severe punishment” in the Fire of Hell, severe in its very nature and character, and they will abide therein forever.
“While those who believe” in their hearts in all that Allah has called upon them to believe, “and do,” with their limbs and in accordance with that faith, “righteous deeds, will have forgiveness” for their sins, by which evil and adversity will be removed from them, “and a great reward,” through which they will obtain what they seek.
