Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

(40) “Allah is the One who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, and then will bring you back to life. Is there any among your partners who can do any of these things? Glory be to Him, and exalted is He above what they associate with Him.”

The Exalted declares that He alone created you, provides for you, causes you to die, and brings you back to life, and that none of the partners invoked by the polytheists shares with Allah in any of these things.

How, then, can they associate with the One who alone possesses these powers those who have no control over them whatsoever?!

Glory be to Him! He is exalted, holy, and far above their association of partners. This does Him no harm; its ruinous consequences (1) fall upon them alone.

(1) Manuscript B reads: *wa-bāluhu* (“its ruinous consequence”).
