Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

(56–59) “O My servants who believe, My earth is indeed vast, so worship Me alone. Every soul will taste death; then to Us you will be returned. As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will surely lodge them in lofty chambers in Paradise, beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. How excellent is the reward of those who labor—those who remain patient and place their trust in their Lord.”

Allah Most High says: “O My servants who believe” in Me and affirm the truthfulness of My Messenger, “My earth is indeed vast, so worship Me alone.” If you are unable to worship your Lord in one land, then depart from it for another where Allah alone can be worshipped. The places and lands in which worship may be performed are vast, while the One worshipped is one. Death will inevitably come upon you, and then you will return to your Lord. He will reward those who worship Him well and combine faith with righteous deeds by lodging them in lofty chambers and splendid dwellings containing all that souls desire and eyes delight in, where you will abide forever.

How excellent are those dwellings in the Gardens of Bliss as “the reward of those who labor” for Allah—“those who remain patient” in worshipping Allah “and place their trust in their Lord” as they do so. Their patience in worshipping Allah requires them to exert their utmost effort and strength and to wage a tremendous struggle against Satan, who calls them to neglect some part of it. Their trust requires them to rely firmly upon Allah and expect good from Him, confident that He will bring to fruition and perfect the deeds they have resolved to undertake. Reliance upon Allah is expressly mentioned—even though it is included within patience—because it is needed in every commanded act and every commanded abstention, neither of which can be fulfilled without it.

﴿٥٦ - ٥٩﴾ ﴿يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّ أَرْضِي وَاسِعَةٌ فَإِيَّايَ فَاعْبُدُونِ * كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ * وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمْ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ غُرَفًا تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا نِعْمَ أَجْرُ الْعَامِلِينَ * الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ﴾ . يقول تعالى: ﴿يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا﴾ بي وصدقوا رسولي ﴿إِنَّ أَرْضِي وَاسِعَةٌ فَإِيَّايَ فَاعْبُدُونِ﴾ فإذا تعذرت عليكم عبادة ربكم في أرض، فارتحلوا منها إلى أرض أخرى، حيث كانت العبادة لله وحده، فأماكن العبادة ومواضعها، واسعة، والمعبود واحد، والموت لا بد أن ينزل بكم ثم ترجعون إلى ربكم، فيجازي من أحسن عبادته وجمع بين الإيمان والعمل الصالح بإنزاله الغرف العالية، والمنازل الأنيقة الجامعة لما تشتهيه الأنفس، وتلذ الأعين، وأنتم فيها خالدون. ⦗٦٣٥⦘ فـ ﴿نعم﴾ تلك المنازل، في جنات النعيم ﴿أَجْرُ الْعَامِلِينَ﴾ لله. ﴿الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا﴾ على عبادة الله ﴿وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ﴾ في ذلك. فصبرهم على عبادة الله، يقتضي بذل الجهد والطاقة في ذلك، والمحاربة العظيمة للشيطان، الذي يدعوهم إلى الإخلال بشيء من ذلك، وتوكلهم، يقتضي شدة اعتمادهم على الله، وحسن ظنهم به، أن يحقق ما عزموا عليه من الأعمال ويكملها، ونص على التوكل، وإن كان داخلا في الصبر، لأنه يحتاج إليه في كل فعل وترك مأمور به، ولا يتم إلا به.
