Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“So We saved him and those aboard the Ark, and made it a sign for all peoples.”

“So We saved him and those aboard the Ark”—those who embarked with him: his family and those who believed in him. “And made it”—meaning the Ark, or the story of Noah—“a sign for all peoples,” from which they may learn that whoever rejects the messengers will ultimately be destroyed, and that Allah will grant the believers relief from every distress and a way out of every hardship.

Allah also made the ark—that is, ships in general—a sign for all peoples, through which they may recognize their Lord’s mercy: He provided them with the means to build ships, made their use easy for them, and enabled them to carry both themselves and their possessions from place to place and from one region to another.
