(83–85) “And on the Day when We gather from every nation a host of those who denied Our signs, they will be marshaled together * Then, when they arrive, He will say, ‘Did you deny My signs without having comprehensive knowledge of them? Or what was it that you were doing?’ * And the decree will fall upon them because of the wrong they committed, and they will not speak.”
Allah Most High informs us of the condition of the deniers at the standing of Resurrection: Allah will gather them and bring forth from every nation a host—a group—“of those who denied Our signs, and they will be marshaled together.” The first of them will be held back until the last have caught up, and the last will be brought forward to join the first, so that the questioning, rebuke, and blame may encompass them all.
“Then, when they arrive” and present themselves, He will say to them in rebuke and reproach: “Did you deny My signs without having comprehensive knowledge of them?” What was required of you was to withhold judgment until the truth became clear to you and to speak only with knowledge. How, then, could you deny something of which you had no comprehensive knowledge? “Or what was it that you were doing?” That is, He will question them about what they knew and what they did, and it will be found against them that they denied the truth and that their deeds were either devoted to other than Allah or performed contrary to the Sunnah of their Messenger.
“And the decree will fall upon them because of the wrong they committed.” That is, the sentence of punishment will become binding upon them because of the wrongdoing in which they persisted, and the proof will be established against them. “And they will not speak,” because they will have no argument to offer.
