Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“Yet they rejected them”—that is, they disbelieved in Allah’s signs and knowingly denied them—“although inwardly convinced of them.” Their denial was not based on doubt or uncertainty; rather, they denied them despite knowing and being certain (1) that they were true, “out of injustice,” thereby wronging the right due to their Lord and wronging themselves, “and arrogance”—exalting themselves above the truth and other people, and refusing to submit to the messengers. “So see how the corrupters met their end.” It was the worst of ends: Allah destroyed them, drowned them in the sea, disgraced them, and caused the oppressed among His servants to inherit their dwellings.

(1) In ب: “their certainty.”
