(53) “He is the One who has released the two seas: this one fresh and sweet, and that one salty and bitter; and He has placed between them a barrier and an impregnable partition.”
That is, He alone released the two seas so that they meet: the freshwater sea—that is, the rivers coursing over the face of the earth—and the saltwater sea. He made each of them serve the welfare of His servants. “And He has placed between them a barrier”—that is, an obstruction preventing either from mixing with the other, lest their intended benefit be lost—and “an impregnable partition,” meaning a strong barrier.
