(47) “He is the One who made the night a covering for you, sleep a rest, and the day a time for rising.”
That is, out of His mercy and kindness toward you, He made the night like a garment that envelops you, so that you may settle down in it, find repose in sleep, and have your movements cease—that is, come to a halt while asleep. Were it not for the night, people would neither rest nor be able to continue their activities, and this would cause them immense harm. Conversely, if darkness were perpetual, their livelihoods and interests would be brought to a standstill. Instead, He made the day a time for rising, in which they disperse to conduct their trade, undertake their journeys, and perform their work, thereby securing their various interests.
