Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“Allah alternates the night and day. Surely in this is a lesson for people of insight.”

“Allah alternates the night and day”: from heat to cold and from cold to heat, from night to day and from day to night. He also causes the fortunes of His servants to alternate. “Surely in this is a lesson for people of insight”—that is, for those endowed with discernment and minds capable of grasping the truths they are meant to perceive, just as eyesight perceives visible, sensory things. A discerning person looks upon these created things to take heed, reflect, and ponder what is intended through them and by their creation. The ignorant person who turns away, however, looks upon them heedlessly, like an animal.
