115–116 “Did you then think that We had created you without purpose and that you would not be returned to Us? Exalted is Allah, the True Sovereign! There is no god but Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.”
That is: “Did you then think,” O creation, “that We had created you without purpose”—aimlessly and in vain, merely to eat, drink, frolic, and enjoy the pleasures of this world, and that We would leave you without commanding you, [without] forbidding you, rewarding you, or punishing you? Hence He says: “and that you would not be returned to Us?” Let no such thought enter your minds.
“Exalted is Allah”—that is, He is supremely great and far above this false supposition, which amounts to impugning His wisdom. “The True Sovereign! There is no god but Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.” His being the Sovereign of all creation, true in what He says, promises, and warns; the deity who is worshipped because of His perfection; and the Lord of the Noble Throne—and therefore, with even greater reason, of everything beneath it—precludes His creating you without purpose.
