“Then, when you and those with you have settled aboard the Ark”—that is, when you have boarded it and it carries you through the surging waves and the depths of the sea—praise Allah for deliverance and safety. Say, “All praise belongs to Allah, who has delivered us from the wrongdoing people.” This is Allah’s instruction to Noah and those with him to say this in gratitude and praise to Him for delivering them from the wrongdoing people, their deeds, and their punishment.
“And say, ‘My Lord, grant me a blessed landing, for You are the best of those who bring to land.’” That is, another blessing still awaits you, so supplicate to Allah for it: that He facilitate for you a blessed place of landing. Allah answered his supplication. He said, “The command was fulfilled, and it came to rest upon al-Jūdī. And it was said, ‘Away with the wrongdoing people!’” Then He said, “It was said, ‘Noah, disembark in peace from Us, with blessings upon you and upon nations descended from those with you,’” to the end of the verse.
“Surely in that”—that is, in this story—“are signs” demonstrating that Allah alone is worthy of worship, that His messenger Noah was truthful, that his people were liars, and that Allah is merciful to His servants, for He carried them in the loins of their father Noah aboard the Ark when the inhabitants of the earth were drowned.
The Ark itself is also one of Allah’s signs. Allah Most High said, “We certainly left it as a sign; is there, then, anyone who will take heed?” That is why He used the plural here: it points to several signs and lessons. “And We were indeed testing.”
