(60) “That is so. Whoever retaliates in proportion to the harm inflicted upon him and is then wronged, Allah will surely come to his aid. Indeed, Allah is surely Ever-Pardoning, All-Forgiving.”
This is because anyone who is harmed and wronged may respond to the offender in proportion to his offense. If he does so, there are no grounds for action against him, nor is he blameworthy. If he is then transgressed against, Allah will aid him because he has been wronged. No one may transgress against him merely because he obtained his rightful due. If Allah aids someone who requites another for his offense and is subsequently wronged, then one who did not retaliate against anyone in the first place when he was wronged and harmed is even more deserving of His aid.
“Indeed, Allah is surely Ever-Pardoning, All-Forgiving.” That is, He pardons sinners and does not hasten to punish them; He forgives their sins, removing both the sins and their effects from them. This is Allah’s established, inseparable, and essential attribute, and His dealings with His servants at all times are marked by pardon and forgiveness. Therefore, you who have been wronged and harmed should pardon, overlook, and forgive, so that Allah may deal with you as you deal with His servants: “Whoever pardons and makes reconciliation—his reward is with Allah.”
