(49–51) “Say, O mankind, I am only a clear warner to you. Those who believe and do righteous deeds shall have forgiveness and a generous provision. But those who strive against Our signs, seeking to thwart them, are the inhabitants of the Hellfire.” (1)
Allah Most High commands His servant and Messenger Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—to address all people, declaring that he is truly the Messenger of Allah, giving the believers glad tidings of Allah’s reward and warning the disbelievers and wrongdoers of His punishment. “Clear” means that his warning is plain, for warning means instilling fear by making known what is to be feared. This is because he presented compelling proofs establishing the truth of that against which he warned them.
Allah then details the warning and the glad tidings, saying: “Those who believe” in their hearts with true and sincere faith “and do righteous deeds” with their limbs are “in Gardens of Bliss”—gardens in which they enjoy every kind of delight: food, drink, spouses, sights, sounds, the joy of seeing their Generous Lord, and hearing ⦗542⦘ His speech. “Those who disbelieved”—that is, who denied their Lord’s favor and rejected His messengers and signs—are the inhabitants of the Hellfire. They shall remain with it and accompany it at all times: none of its torment will be lightened for them, nor will its punishment relent for even a moment.
