Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“They will not hear even its faintest sound, and they will remain forever amid whatever their souls desire. The greatest terror will not grieve them, and the angels will receive them, saying, ‘This is your Day which you were promised.’”

“And they will remain forever amid whatever their souls desire”—foods, drinks, spouses, and delightful sights such as no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard, and no human heart has ever conceived. All this will endure for them, increasing in beauty throughout the ages.

“The greatest terror will not grieve them”—that is, they will not be troubled when people are seized by the greatest terror. This will be on the Day of Resurrection, when the Fire is brought near, raging against the disbelievers and sinners. People will be terrified by that event, but these people will not be grieved, for they know what they are approaching and that Allah has granted them safety from what they fear.

“And the angels will receive them” when they are raised from their graves at the Resurrection and come as an honored delegation riding noble camels. The angels will congratulate them, saying, “This is your Day which you were promised.” So may you rejoice in what Allah promised you; may your gladness be immense at the honor awaiting you; and may your joy and happiness abound because Allah has kept you safe from all fears and adversities.
