“And among the devils were those who dived for him and performed other tasks besides that; and We kept watch over them.”
“And among the devils were those who dived for him and performed other tasks besides that.” This too was among the unique distinctions granted to Solomon (peace be upon him): Allah subjected the devils and mighty jinn to him and empowered him to employ them in tasks, many of which no others could perform. Some would dive into the sea for him and bring up precious stones, pearls, and other things. Others made for him “sanctuaries, statues, basins as large as reservoirs, and firmly fixed cauldrons.” He also subjected a group of them to build the Sacred House in Jerusalem. Solomon died while they were still engaged in his work, and they continued for a year after his death until they learned that he had died, as will be explained later, Allah Most High willing.
