(47–48) “Go to him and say, ‘Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send the Children of Israel with us and do not torment them. We have brought you a sign from your Lord. Peace be upon whoever follows the guidance. * Indeed, it has been revealed to us that punishment will befall whoever denies and turns away.’”
That is, go to him with these two demands: invite him to Islam and free this noble people, the Children of Israel, from his bondage and enslavement, so that they may be free and take charge of their own affairs, and Moses may establish Allah’s law and religion among them.
“We have brought you a sign” demonstrating our truthfulness. Moses then “threw down his staff, and behold, it was a manifest serpent. * And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white for the onlookers,” and so on through the rest of what Allah related concerning the two signs.
“Peace be upon whoever follows the guidance.” That is, whoever follows the straight path and is guided by the manifest divine law will attain safety in this world and the Hereafter.
