(70) “We have indeed honored the children of Adam, carried them over land and sea, provided them with good things, and greatly favored them above many of those We created.”
This is part of His generosity and immeasurable kindness toward them. He honored the children of Adam in every way: He endowed them with knowledge and reason, sent them messengers, revealed scriptures to them, raised devoted and chosen servants from among them, and bestowed upon them blessings both outward and inward.
“We carried them over land” on mounts such as camels, mules, and donkeys, as well as other means of land transport; “and” over “sea” in ships and vessels. “We provided them with good things,” including food, drink, clothing, and spouses. There is no wholesome thing they need that Allah has not graciously granted them and made readily accessible to them.
“And greatly favored them above many of those We created” through the noble qualities and special virtues He bestowed upon them, which other kinds of creatures do not possess.
Will they not, then, duly thank the One who bestowed these blessings and warded off afflictions? Will they not keep those blessings from veiling them from the Bestower and distracting them from worshipping their Lord? Rather, they may even use them to disobey Him.
