Tafsir al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

(146–147) Then Allah Most High said:

“Those to whom We gave the Scripture recognize him as they recognize their own sons. Yet a group of them knowingly conceal the truth. * The truth is from your Lord, so never be among those who doubt.”

Allah Most High informs us that the People of the Scripture had become firmly convinced that Muhammad was the Messenger of Allah and that what he brought was true and genuine. They were as certain of this as they were of the identity of their own sons, whom they could never mistake for anyone else. Their recognition of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had thus reached a point at which they had neither doubt nor uncertainty. Yet a group among them—indeed, most of them—disbelieved in him and concealed this testimony despite being certain of it; they did so knowingly: “Who is more unjust than one who conceals a testimony he has from Allah?” This also contains consolation for the Messenger and the believers, as well as a warning to him against their evil and specious arguments.

Another group among them did not knowingly conceal the truth: some believed [in him], while others disbelieved [in him] out of ignorance. A person who possesses knowledge must therefore make the truth manifest, clarify it, and present it attractively through every expression, proof, example, and other means within his power. He must also refute falsehood, distinguish it from the truth, expose its ugliness, and make it repugnant to people by every means conducive to that end. These concealers reversed this proper course, and consequently their own condition was reversed.

“The truth is from your Lord”—that is, this truth is more deserving than anything else of being called truth because it contains sublime teachings, excellent commands, purification of souls, encouragement to secure their welfare, and protection from what harms them. This is because it comes from your Lord, and part of His nurturing care for you is that He sent down to you this Quran, which nurtures minds and souls and contains every benefit.

﴿١٤٦ - ١٤٧﴾ .ثم قال تعالى: ﴿الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَعْرِفُونَهُ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقًا مِنْهُمْ لَيَكْتُمُونَ الْحَقَّ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ * الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكَ فَلا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُمْتَرِينَ﴾ . يخبر تعالى: أن أهل الكتاب قد تقرر عندهم، وعرفوا أن محمدا رسول الله، وأن ما جاء به، حق وصدق، وتيقنوا ذلك، كما تيقنوا أبناءهم بحيث لا يشتبهون عليهم بغيرهم، فمعرفتهم بمحمد ﷺ، وصلت إلى حد لا يشكون فيه ولا يمترون، ولكن فريقا منهم - وهم أكثرهم - الذين كفروا به، كتموا هذه الشهادة مع تيقنها، وهم يعلمون ﴿وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنْ كَتَمَ شَهَادَةً عِنْدَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ﴾ وفي ضمن ذلك، تسلية للرسول والمؤمنين، وتحذير له من شرهم وشبههم، وفريق منهم لم يكتموا الحق وهم يعلمون، فمنهم من آمن [به] ومنهم من كفر [به] جهلا فالعالم عليه إظهار الحق، وتبيينه وتزيينه، بكل ما يقدر عليه من عبارة وبرهان ومثال، وغير ذلك، وإبطال الباطل وتمييزه عن الحق، وتشيينه، وتقبيحه للنفوس، بكل طريق مؤد لذلك، فهولاء الكاتمون، عكسوا الأمر، فانعكست أحوالهم. ﴿الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكَ﴾ أي: هذا الحق الذي هو أحق أن يسمى حقا من كل شيء، لما اشتمل عليه من المطالب العالية، والأوامر الحسنة، وتزكية النفوس وحثها على تحصيل مصالحها، ودفع مفاسدها، لصدوره من ربك، الذي من جملة تربيته لك أن أنزل عليك هذا القرآن الذي فيه تربية العقول والنفوس، وجميع المصالح.
