“That is part of the wisdom your Lord has revealed to you. Do not set up another god alongside Allah, lest you be cast into Hell, blameworthy and banished.”
“That” which We have explained and clarified of these sublime rulings “is part of the wisdom your Lord has revealed to you,” for wisdom consists in enjoining virtuous deeds and noble character and forbidding base traits and the worst deeds.
The deeds mentioned in these verses are among the lofty wisdom that the Lord of the worlds revealed to the chief of the messengers in the noblest of Books, so that he might command the best of nations to observe them. They are part of the wisdom of which whoever is granted it has indeed been granted abundant good.
He then concluded these teachings by forbidding the worship of anything besides Allah, just as He had begun them with the same prohibition. He said: “Do not set up another god alongside Allah, lest you be cast into Hell”—that is, to remain there forever; for whoever associates partners with Allah, Allah has forbidden Paradise to him, and his abode is the Fire.
“Blameworthy and banished”—that is, blame, curse, and condemnation from Allah, His angels, and all people will have overtaken you.
