(37–39) “Do not walk upon the earth exultantly. You will never rend the earth, nor will you reach the mountains in height. The evil of all that is hateful to your Lord.”
Allah Most High says: “Do not walk upon the earth exultantly,” that is, with arrogance, conceit, and insolent pride—haughtily rejecting the truth and exalting yourself above people.
“In doing so, you will never rend the earth, nor will you reach the mountains in height” ⦗458⦘ through your arrogance. Rather, you will be insignificant before Allah, despised by people, hated and detested. You will have acquired the worst traits and clothed yourself in the vilest of them, without attaining even some of what you seek.
“All that”—namely, what Allah prohibited in the preceding passages, beginning with His words, “Do not set up another god alongside Allah,” as well as disobedience toward parents and the prohibitions mentioned thereafter—“the evil of it is hateful to your Lord.” That is, all of it brings evil and harm upon those who commit it, and Allah Most High hates and rejects it.
