- “Your Lord knows best what is within your souls. If you are righteous, He is truly Ever-Forgiving to those who constantly turn to Him.”
That is, your Lord Most High is fully aware of the good and evil concealed within you. He does not look at your deeds and bodies; rather, He looks at your hearts and the good and evil they contain.
“If you are righteous”—that is, if your desires and intentions revolve around seeking Allah’s pleasure, your aspiration is for what draws you nearer to Him, and your hearts harbor no settled desires directed toward anyone other than Allah—
“then He is truly Ever-Forgiving to those who constantly turn to Him,” meaning those who return to Him at all times. Thus, when Allah looks into a person’s heart and knows that it contains nothing but a constant return to Him, love for Him, and love for whatever draws one nearer to Him, then even if that person sometimes does what arises from human nature, Allah pardons him and forgives those passing lapses that are not firmly rooted within him.
