Introduction by the Author’s Sons
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah alone, and may blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. To proceed:
Among the blessings that Allah, Glorified and Exalted, bestowed upon our father, Shaykh Abd al-Rahmān ibn Nāsir al-Sa'dī, was enabling him to write his renowned commentary, Taysīr al-Karīm al-Rahmān fī Tafsīr Kalām al-Mannān (“The Facilitation of the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful in the Exegesis of the Words of the Munificent”). Allah granted this commentary widespread acceptance, and vast numbers of people benefited from it. It was printed many times. The first was the edition of the Salafi Library and Press, owned by Muhibb al-Dīn al-Khatīb—may Allah have mercy on him—followed by the edition of the al-Sa'īdiyya Library, reviewed and corrected by Muhammad Zuhrī al-Najjār.
However, many scholars and students of knowledge noted numerous problems in both editions—especially al-Najjār’s edition—which were then carried over into every subsequent edition. The validity of these observations was confirmed, and many times more problems came to light, when the commentary was checked against its two handwritten manuscripts. This revealed the errors, omissions, and additions in the printed text.
We learned of the work undertaken by Dr. Abd al-Rahmān ibn Mu'allā al-Luwayhiq, assistant professor in the College of Sharia in Riyadh, to correct our father’s commentary and collate it against the two handwritten manuscripts, while publishing it in a single volume alongside the Quranic text. We found that his work was free of the defects that marred the previous editions. It was distinguished from them by basing the printed commentary on the manuscript in our father’s own hand—may Allah have mercy on him—and checking it against the handwritten manuscript upon which the Salafi Press had relied. Consequently, the commentary in this form is as close as possible to what its author—may Allah have mercy on him—intended.
For these reasons, we approve this edition, critically edited and collated by Abd al-Rahmān ibn Mu'allā al-Luwayhiq, and consider it the edition that should serve as the basis for all subsequent editions. We hope that printing presses and publishing houses will refrain from reprinting the earlier editions because of the errors they contain, as becomes evident upon reading the introduction to this blessed work.
We pray that Allah, Glorified and Exalted, forgive our father, Shaykh Abd al-Rahmān ibn Nāsir al-Sa'dī, and grant him an abundant reward and recompense. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
On behalf of the sons of the author—may Allah have mercy on him:
Musā'id al-Abd ibn al-Sa'dī
