Al-Kalbi said: The believers will benefit from their faith. Qatada said: There are two speakers who will not be mistaken on the Day of Resurrection: Jesus, peace be upon him—whose words Allah, exalted is He, has related—and the enemy of Allah, Iblis, as in His words: “And Satan will say, when the matter has been decided,” to the end of the verse. Thus, the enemy of Allah spoke the truth on that day, though he had been a liar before then; yet his truthfulness did not benefit him. As for Jesus, peace be upon him, he was truthful in this world and the Hereafter, so his truthfulness benefited him.
Ata said: This is a day from among the days of this world, for the Hereafter is an abode of recompense, not an abode of action. He then explained their reward, saying:
“They will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding there forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is the supreme triumph.”
He then proclaimed His greatness, saying:
“To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, and He is over all things competent.”
