“When they hear what has been sent down to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they have recognized. They say, ‘Our Lord, we believe, so record us among those who bear witness.’” (83)
“And when they hear what has been sent down to the Messenger”—Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—“you see their eyes overflowing,” that is, streaming, “with tears because of the truth they have recognized.” Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said in the narration of Ata': This refers to the Negus and his companions. Ja'far recited to them in Abyssinia Kaf Ha Ya Ayn Sad, and they continued weeping until Ja'far had finished the recitation. “They say, ‘Our Lord, we believe, so record us among those who bear witness.’”
