Tafsir al-BaghawiAl-Baghawi

“Had the People of the Book believed and been mindful of Allah, We would surely have absolved them of their evil deeds and admitted them into Gardens of Bliss. (65) Had they upheld the Torah, the Gospel, and what was sent down to them from their Lord, they would have eaten from above them and from beneath their feet. Among them is a community that is upright, but evil is what many of them do. (66) O Messenger, convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord. If you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people. (67)”

“Had the People of the Book believed”—in Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him—“and been mindful of Allah”—by guarding themselves against disbelief—“We would surely have absolved them of their evil deeds and admitted them into Gardens of Bliss.”
