- Abu al-Qasim Abd al-Karim ibn Hawazin al-Qushayri informed us: Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Tahir al-Daqqaq, in Baghdad, informed us; Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad ibn al-Zubayr al-Qurashi informed us; al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Affan informed us; Zayd ibn al-Hubab informed us, from Muawiyah ibn Salih, who said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr ibn Malik al-Hadrami narrated to me, from his father, from al-Nawwas ibn Saman al-Ansari, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was asked about righteousness and sin. He said: “Righteousness is good character, and sin is what causes you inner unease and which you dislike people discovering.” (1)
“And fear Allah; surely Allah is severe in punishment.”

١٠١\أأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ بْنُ هَوَازِنَ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ أَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي طَاهِرٍ الدَّقَّاقُ بِبَغْدَادَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ الْقُرَشِيُّ أَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ أَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النُّوَاسِ بْنِ سَمْعَانَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْبِرِّ وَالْإِثْمِ، قَالَ: "الْبِرُّ حُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ، وَالْإِثْمُ مَا حَاكَ فِي نَفْسِكَ وَكَرِهْتَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ" (١) . ﴿وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ﴾ .
